Holmes has a BS in biological sciences and more than 20 years of relevant industry experience, having previously worked in roles across technical information and library services, information resources and information management, marketing research, and microbiology. Her former employers include Jazz Pharmaceuticals, ALZA Corporation, Johnson & Johnson (J&J), and SRI International.
